  • Sweeney’s Mole and Gopher Repellent

Say goodbye to mole and gopher invaders with Sweeney’s Mole & Gopher Repellent. It uses a dual action formula to target the senses of burrowing animals, such as moles, gophers, voles and more. The granules penetrate their tunnels, creating an unpleasant environment, which drives them away before they have a chance to do further damage around your yard. For your convenience, it comes in a resealable bag for easy storage.

    Dual-Action Repelling

This repellent works by slowly driving burrowing animals away in stages. The fast-acting formula targets multiple senses for dual-action repelling. Once inside the tunnel, the granules make everything and taste unpleasant, sending the unwanted pests scurrying.

    Tunnel-Penetrating Formula

Made with specially engineered castor oil pellets, this repellent is easily absorbed into the ground, allowing the granules to reach the tunnel quickly. The trick is in the application process – daily watering of the granules allows them to penetrate further into the tunnels.

    All Natural

With Sweeney’s Mole and Gopher Repellent you can feel confident in the knowledge that it’s all natural. It is non-toxic and poison-free! In addition, this repellent formula is safe for use around your family and pets, as well as the environment when used as directed.

How to Apply Mole and Gopher Repellent

Every mole invasion is different, so it is important to think about your strategy before applying the granules. You should first identify the mole areas with the most activity and decide which direction to herd them out of the yard. Note: Application may require more steps depending on the size of your yard.

Day 1 - Spread the granules over the first area and water-in with a sprinkler for approximately 20 minutes. Watering allows the concentrated granules to penetrate deeply into the lawn.

Day 2 - Spread the granules over the second area. Water-in the same are as Day 1, as well as the second area to get the mole moving. Each day’s watering allows the granules to penetrate more deeply.

Day 3 - Spread granules over the third area. Water-in the same areas as Day 1 and 2, as well as the third area to keep the mole moving.

Day 4 - Spread the granules over the fourth area. Water-in the same areas as Days 1, 2, and 3, as well as the fourth area to move the mole out of the yard.

My five acres of cleared land looked like someone used it for battleground practice. The mole trenches were so numerous that mowing was like driving a car with bad shock absorbers down a rutted country lane. Products that you insert into the freshly burrowed trail work for small yards but not on a grand scale like my yard. Likewise for the metal traps.

I wish I didn''t have to pay so much for Sweeney''s but at least my money goes for something that''s effective. Because of the scope of the land I have to cover, hosing it into the ground is not an option. Instead, I let Mother Nature do the job and I time broadcasting it over the soil with the weather predictions.

Over the years I''ve learned the little monster''s annual habits. Sweeney''s works in Tennessee for six months no matter how much or how little it rains. At first, I waited until seeing new visitors before treating. Finally I''ve learned that offensive works better than defensive and every January and June I retreat the borders of my property. For two years now my acreage has been free of moles. For your initial treatment, if covering the amount of territory that I have, make a plan for broadcasting the granules. As much as a nuisance as moles are, it''s the humane thing to do, when pushing them to the property boundary, that you leave them a place to scurry to that''s product-free so plan ahead, diagram a pattern if need be. With the first treatments, begin in the middle to push them outward and mark where the edge of the product lays - I use little flags on a metal rods. With the next treatment, start where you placed your markers and make a bigger circle, again marking where you stopped, and so on until you reach your property borders. When you''re in maintenance mode, treat only the property boundaries to prevent them from re-entering.

When I first treated the yard, it cost $400 of Sweeney''s to move out the moles. I gave my poor Amazon delivery guy a Christmas gift that year. Maintenance now cost $80 for bi-annual treatments. It''s money well spent for the pleasure of looking out over an expanse of green grass rather than the damaged yard it used to be.

This did not work for me, but it''s not necessarily the product''s fault. Everyone says you have to follow the directions. I had two problems with that: 1. I don''t have a fertilizer spreader so I couldn''t tell how much to use. I just tried to scatter a lot and evenly. 2. The idea is, you spread a section, water it in for three days, and keep expanding the area until you''ve driven the gophers out of your yard. I have a big, rough yard and I live in California, where water is precious. I can''t water my whole yard.

I just wanted them to stay out of my raised garden beds. I tried spreading and watering in just that area, about 600 square feet. But the gopher came back.

I have had moles in a small closed in area of my yard. I would get rid of one and another one would show up in days. The moles entered into my yard through a small area between my house and my neighbors house connecting to a large woods with many moles. I spread the repellent over my yard and nothing happened. The moles would come back and kept digging his/her mounds. I used the black box to catch the moles. After this last time, I then filled the "runway" between my house and the neighbors house with Sweeney''s Mole and Gopher Repellent. I dug down and poured the contents in the moles'' tunnel. It has been 2 months and no more moles. Before the moles would be back in 5-7 days. I believe this works but it has to be placed where the moles move and finding the best place to apply is the secret.

I know this is a really controversial product, but I''ve had success with it getting rid of moles in Southern Illinois. I used it with a Scotts Spreader day after day spiraling out from my house - including throwing a few handfuls here and there where I know they have active tunnels.

Worked after various traps, poison grubs, poison pellets, and those silly vibrating things failed in various combinations -- and all together at once.

Now I''m fighting chipmunks who don''t bat an eye at castor oil, but I''ll get them sooner or later.

We have a 7,000 sq foot front lawn and saw the mound one morning. We had no previous experience with gophers so this was a first. We looked them up on the Internet and then began exploring our options. We definitely did not want to kill or harm the gopher(s). We just wanted them to relocate. We decided to try Sweeney''s Mole and Gopher Repellent. My husband first wet the mound and cut the lawn. He then spread a concentric line between the gopher hole/mound and our house and wet it thoroughly. The second day, he spread a second line between the first and the mound. He also saw an exposed hole and poured some granules directly into the hole followed by water. The third day he spread a new line between the second and the gopher mound and poured more granules down the hole. The fourth day, the mound appeared abandoned, but he found another hole on the other side of the house and began the process again. So far, we have used less than one bag of the granules. We already have a second bag and ordered a third. This project takes perseverance, but the gophers are moving away from the house and seem annoyed but unhurt. Our plan is to continue with the granules until the gophers leave entirely and then use the solar powered sonic gopher repeller to keep them away. So far, so good.

Used the product according to directions and it appeared to work-no mole activity for about six weeks. Then the moles returned with a vengeance! I dropped 30 pounds of the product on a 1000 sq ft piece of beautiful lawn over a period of several weeks following the reappearance. Didn''t phase the moles at all. Even used Sweeney''s liquid spray. Neither worked and my lawn is ripped to shreds. Mole seemed to be going deeper and obviously the contention that the product makes their food source unpleasant didn''t hold true. Was thrilled after the first six weeks, extremely disappointed after that and will not be using this product in the futiure.

We eventually invested in a poison and that seemed to solve our issues very quickly. We have no children or domestic pets, nor did we find a dead critter. We were glad to put an end to our lawn getting filled with holes and patches missing grass.
